in an ideal scenario, cloud costs would be automatically allocated to the business units responsible for resource consumption however, in real world situations, resources are often shared across multiple teams or tenants , and it may not always be possible to allocate costs based solely on tags, labels, subaccounts, or subscriptions for these situations, amberflo provides the flexibility of manual allocation , allowing you to specify exactly how shared service costs should be attributed across your business units understanding manual allocation policies a manual allocation policy allows you to distribute the unallocated portion of a cloud service’s costs across your business units you can easily specify the percentage of a service that each business unit should bear, ensuring accurate and transparent cost management setting up a manual allocation policy follow these straightforward steps to create and manage your manual allocation policies navigate to allocation policy page go to the allocation policy page by selecting it from the left navigation under the manage section you will see a list of services whose costs have not been fully allocated to business units select a service for allocation in the list, each service displays a percentage allocated value on the right hand side this indicates how much of the service cost is currently allocated choose a service with a percentage less than 100% and click on it to begin allocation important only the portion of the service costs that remain unallocated from automatic methods (tags, subaccounts, etc ) will be shown here any automatically allocated costs are already accounted for and will not appear in this view view and manage existing allocations when you select a service, you’ll see a detailed page showing all current allocations at the top left of this view, you’ll notice the unallocated costs percentage , representing how much of the service cost still requires allocation if you have not allocated any part of the service yet, this will display as 100% add a new business unit allocation to allocate costs, click the edit business unit button located at the top right of the table a popup window appears, prompting you to • select a business unit choose from the dropdown list of your available business units • set allocation percentage specify the percentage of the remaining unallocated cost you wish to assign to this business unit ensure this percentage does not exceed the available unallocated percentage after selecting your business unit and entering the appropriate percentage, click save changes editing or deleting allocations allocations can easily be adjusted at any time • to edit an allocation , click the pencil icon under the actions column and adjust the percentage • to delete an allocation , click the trashcan icon in the actions column to remove that business unit’s allocation always remember to click the save button at the bottom right of the page to confirm your changes benefits of manual allocation manual allocation provides a flexible, transparent method for handling complex cost sharing scenarios • accurate attribution clearly define exactly how costs are shared • transparency business units understand exactly what they are accountable for • operational flexibility easily adjust as your organization’s needs evolve amberflo’s manual allocation capabilities ensure you always have control over how shared costs are managed, driving clear accountability and informed financial decisions throughout your organization
