Updates an existing customer with new information, or creates the customer if they do not exist. Use this endpoint when you need idempotent customer management that handles both creation and updates.

When updating, you can modify customer details such as name, email, description, and traits. The lifecycle stage and test status cannot be changed through this endpoint. If the customer does not exist, they will be created with the provided information.

Use this endpoint to:

Update customer contact information
Modify customer traits and metadata
Update tax addresses
Ensure customer records exist without checking first

Important Note: Use the dedicated lifecycle stage endpoints to change a customer's lifecycle stage. Deleted customers cannot be updated.
